Musings from the weekend--from the murder in Minneapolis to my time spent in LA with my daughter

Dana DuBois is a memoirist and Gen X word nerd based in the Pacific Northwest. She founded I Write Out Loud, her Substack publication, where she writes across a range of subjects; parenting, music and pop culture, relationships, and feminism are her favorites. She co-hosts The Daily Whatever Show. Em dashes, Oxford commas, and well-placed semicolons make her heart happy.

As always, our Friday show lived up to its name: a game where everyone loses, especially when the truth always wins.
Today’s show unfolded as a spontaneous bestie day, with Lawrence and I holding a fun catch up chat when our scheduled guest slot fell through.
Fill a few crones with some love potion tea and cocktails, light a few candles, and the magic begins!
Between chicken anecdotes, thoughtful reflections on community, and raw honesty about our country, today’s show was a warm, grounding, and slightly wry conversation.
Some days there’s an agenda. Today wasn’t one of them, but somehow, that made it exactly what it needed to be.
Our conversation felt less like an interview and more like sharing space with someone who carries history inside her.
